No pics for you
today. I had camera problems but have it fixed now. Helps to
have the batteries charged. And there's something funny about the XD card,
and sometimes I can't get it to read. But I discovered if I shut down the
reader then plug it back in, it works. So it's probably the reader, not
the card.
It's been non-stop all day. it's a lot harder to take
pictures of workshops and the like. And I don't think the editors would
have appreciated my taking pictures of their appointments, so there haven't been
very many good photo opportunities.
Now that it's late Friday night, it's
harder to remember Thursday. There was a Thursday, wasn't there? It was a
blur. Thursday night I went to the Trident Media Group party, which was
especially nice this year because the authors' editors were invited as well as
authors. My agent, Jenny Bent, also represents a number of my friends,
some had a great time. I had such a nice talk with one of the editors who
rejected my book last year. Imagine hearing an editor gush about how
wonderful and elegant your book was, and then say, "And then I couldn't buy
it." One of those situations when the house quit buying for that line, and
now has closed it down.
The Golden Network party was also
marvelous. I get such a kick out of seeing past finalists again and
again. By that time I was thoroughly exhausted and hit the sack without
going to Moonlight Madness. I probably saved a fortune.
I had
only one appointment this year, with Monique Patterson. She's so
neat. Later I attended the workshop she gave with L.A. Banks, "Darlin',
Your Fangs Are Showing." All I can say is, "Aha!" Now I can't wait
to get home and make use of all my great ideas.
The Awards Luncheon
usually doesn't quite hold my attention, but this year Marcy Dodge of Borders,
Beaverton Oregon is Bookseller of the Year. It's about time. They
could not ever have made a better pick. Marcy is SO supportive of the
Romance genre and its authors. We stood up to cheer because she is so
special to us.
Then there was the Golden Heart/RITA Finalists'
Reception. Darn shame it only lasts an hour because I'd only worked my way
halfway through the room before it was over and everyone was leaving. I
missed seeing more of this year's crop of GH finalists, darn it!
And
tonight, the Wet Noodle Posse all went out to dinner again, but I had promised
to have dinner with my critique partner from Florida, June Ulrich, and we joined
the Z Debs, the Debut Authors of Zebra (Kensington).
Food.
It's everywhere. And it's good. I sure hope my Awards Night dress
still fits!
